City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

I was easily sucked up into this entertaining world of Shadowhunters, downworlders, mundanes and demons. I love New York City, so I was pleasantly surprised to find NYC as the backdrop for this compelling read. The characters easily become endeared and developed well early on, the plot thickened and twisted like the roots of an old withered tree. The epilogue left the reader wanting more, but was well written and could have smoothly ended as a stand alone novel. Lucky for me it is a series and I am happily off to book two!
